Making Sense of Points & Miles :)
Sales Tax Holidays: Some states have state tax holidays in August, suspending sales tax for certain items. Could be worth a look in those states to get some electronics without tax, maybe?
Welcome Back!
Hope everyone is doing well 😊
Happy August! It’s actually my mom’s birthday today, so a festive day, hopefully filled with gifts, sushi, and just overall happiness! 🎉
August being here makes it seem like the summer is almost over already… Time does really fly by when you are having fun, and I’ve had plenty of fun this summer, with more to come yet! Some more travel, movies and other stuff going on later in the month, so still some stuff to look forward to, and hopefully all of your summers are also exciting!
With that, let’s get into the stories:
🏦 Transfer Bonuses ✈️
✈️ Alaska's Global Getaways ❄️
💳️ Best Card Signup Bonuses 💳️
✈️ 25% Off to Europe, August Edition 📆
It’s the first newsletter of August, so as per usual, Flying Blue’s monthly Promo Rewards are back!
If you are not familiar: Flying Blue (mileage program of Air France and KLM) releases Flying Blue Promo Rewards, which are monthly promotions where routes between Europe and select destinations globally are offered for 25% off the original mileage price. Every month!
For this month, the US cities selected for this discount are Phoenix, Seattle, Dallas, New York, Houston, Los Angeles, Orlando, Miami, Las Vegas, San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.! ✈️

August’s deals!
They’ve got deals across the globe for this month as usual, with business class deals from Europe to Asia, Africa as well as Central and South America! Lots of exciting flight routes in the offers for the month!
So without these promo rewards, economy flights from North America to Europe start at 25k miles each way + taxes & fees. With the 25% off from these deals, that now goes down to 18.75k miles each way (same taxes & fees). I’ve used these deals to travel to Europe and back before too! Business class deals for this month start at 63.75k each way as well!
Remember, just because these deals come from Air France and KLM does not mean you have to go to France or the Netherlands! Their intra-European network is far and wide, and as long as your origin or destination is a city selected for this month’s discounts, you’ll get 25% off, no matter the European airport involved. 🇪🇺
Exciting stuff from Flying Blue for August - happy travels if you find and book something that works for you! 🧳
🏦➡️✈️ Transfer Bonuses
A chart of transfer partners by bank, along with other information, can be found here! New transfer bonuses not present the week before are in bold. Two notes: 1) that any transfers to Avios essentially include British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Finnair, and Qatar, and 2) that if you have the Chase Aeroplan credit card, any Aeroplan transfer bonuses are 10% extra!
Bank | Transfer Partner | Bonus | This bonus ends: |
|---|---|---|---|
Rove | Qantas | 50% (1:1.50) | August 14th, 2026 |
Citi | Flying Blue | 20% (1:1.20) | August 22nd, 2026 |
Amex, Bilt, Capital One, Citi | Cathay Pacific | 10% (1:1.10) | August 28th, 2026 |
Chase | IHG One Rewards | 70% (1:1.70) | August 31st, 2026 |
Capital One | Avianca Lifemiles | 15% (1:1.15) | August 31st, 2026 |
Citi | Turkish Miles & Smiles | 40% (1:1.40) | August 31st, 2026 |
Amex | Avios (British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus) | 30% (1:1.30) | September 27th, 2026 |
✈️ Alaska's Global Getaways ❄️
We talk about Flying Blue’s Promo Rewards and Singapore Spontaneous Escapes on a monthly basis, but Alaska has a recurring reward flight discount too!
Alaska runs a quarterly award sale (a quarterly version of Flying Blue Promo Rewards and Singapore Spontaneous Escapes). Their Global Getaways is now up and running! Book by August 8th, for flights through February 2027!
For this time around, the selected destinations are:

There’s usually 6 locations, but 9 this time around!
Some of these deals are quite solid, and these are deals for anywhere in the US to these destinations. So New York to Sydney can cost 35k miles each way, which is quite reasonable. NYC-SYD actually was on last time too for 30k, but 35k is still good I think! Fiji for 30k and Tahiti or 25k is also pretty good imo, as is Osaka for 27.5k. Again, this is for anywhere in the US, so JFK-KIX and LAX-KIX could both cost the same.
The only thing about Global Getaways is that these deals are only for economy and premium economy. Maybe one day, they’ll add some business routes 🤞
Alaska miles are a bit tough to get - you need either the Hawaiian or Alaska cards, or you can transfer from Bilt. But with a solid award chart, good partners, and deals like this, it could be worth considering churning the cards for the miles 🤷
So quite the deal going on at Alaska! Exciting to see more destinations than usual too, and hope you can take advantage!
📰 Other Stories & Deals 💰️
🎫 Frontier is back with its GoWild Pass for Fall and Winter, for $199!
💳️ Best Card Signup Bonuses 💳️
Again, the usual solid cards:
Do search for public links for the above cards to compare signup bonuses to make sure you get the highest one (incognito mode, Resy, etc.).
For cards with elevated signup bonuses (targeted bonuses are not included), I’ve got:
Card | Bonus | Annual Fee | Why Consider? |
|---|---|---|---|
100k Hilton Honors points + $100 statement credit after $2k spend in 6 months | $0 | A new elevated bonus! Not bad for a no annual fee card! | |
130k Hilton Honors points after $3k spend in 6 months | $0 for the first year, then $150 | A new elevated bonus! Should be a easy cancel in year 2 for churners. | |
175k Hilton Honors points after $6k spend in 6 months | $550 | I still think this is the single best hotel card in the market. With an elevated bonus too now! | |
100k Chase UR points after $8k spend in 4 months | $0 | Great bonus for a no annual fee! | |
100k Chase UR points after $8k spend in 4 months | $0 | Great bonus for a no annual fee! | |
125k points + 1 Free Night Award (up to 50k points) after $3k spend in 3 months | $95 | Solid bonus! The card also gives a free night every year, and can be upgraded to the Ritz Carlton card if you’d like after year 1! |
