Making Sense of Points & Miles :)
100k Coming Soon: Rumors are that the 100k signup bonus on the Chase Sapphire Preferred will be back next week in branch and online in early April! Solid card with an amazing bonus 💰️
Welcome Back!
Hope everyone is doing well 😊
I recently got a request to help find business class award flights for someone - but while I couldn’t find any flights that worked for them, I figured I could share the takeaways I shared.
The best chances for business class availability are right when the award space drops (330-365 days in advance for most airlines), or 2 weeks before your travel plans. That’s not to say anything else is impossible, of course! I’d also recommend using platforms like seats.aero to set alerts for the flights that you are looking for.
With more and more people getting into points & miles, this will inevitably get harder and harder, not to mention the devaluations happening. But if you know what you are looking for and when to look for it, that will increase the chances that you’ll be able to find what you are looking for! 🔍️

🇸🇬 An Improved Singapore Sale 🇸🇬
Singapore released March’s Krisflyer Spontaneous Escapes! For those of you who aren’t familiar, Singapore releases discounted award flights in the form of Spontaneous Escapes on the 15th of every month.
But this month, the deal is even better, as Singapore’s loyalty program hit 10 million members! To celebrate, they’ve upped the discount from 30% during usual months to 40% for this month!
The details to keep note of are that:
You must complete your booking by March 31st 📆
Travel can take place between April 1st and April 30th, 2025 📆
Awards are non-refundable and non-changeable (so be careful)
For this month, they’ve included a handful of routes from the US to Singapore in the deal, all on the West Coast. You can fly from LA, SF, or Seattle to Singapore in economy for 25.2k points one way! Premium economy is also available on the SF and Seattle routes for 45k points one way 🧳
Do also remember that the Flying Blue Promo Rewards and the Alaska Global Getaways are also still going on, if you are tracking airline promotions!
If you are interested in going to Singapore or elsewhere via Singapore, do take advantage of these discounts, available till the end of the month! And if not interested for this month’s promotions but interested in the future, then keep an eye for these discounts on the 15th of every month! 👀

🚨 Earn 5x Points for Q2 2025 🚨

New Quarterly Categories, like the above from Discover!
With Q2 right around the corner, I wanted to bring up the quarterly rotating categories. Just incase you are not familiar: cards with rotating categories give extra rewards for certain categories of card spend, like gas, flights, groceries, and more.
For Q2 2025, the categories are:
Card | Spend Categories | Rewards during Q2 |
---|---|---|
Chase Freedom Flex (Chase Freedom too) | Amazon, Select Streaming Services, Internet, Cable and Phone services1 | 5x/5% back, up to $1500 in the quarter (7500 points total) |
Citi Dividend (no longer open to new applicants) | Grocery stores, Citi Travel | 5x/5% back, up to $6000 on all rotating category spend in the year |
Grocery stores, Wholesale Clubs | 5% back, up to $1500 in the quarter (7500 points total) | |
TV, Internet, and Streaming Services, Home utilities, Select clothing stores, Cell phone providers, Electronic Stores, Gyms/Fitness, Fast food, Ground Transportation, Sporting goods, Department Stores, Furniture Stores, Movie theaters | 5% back on the first $2000 in purchases in the bonus categories |
1 The categories in bold will earn 5x/5% only in the month of June.
There’s quite a bit going on here across the rotating categories, but getting 5x on groceries is always great, and two cards on the above list have it for this coming quarter! 2025 is also the 15th birthday of the Chase Freedom, and they are adding some extra categories as a result, for the whole year. Q2’s bonus categories are Internet, Cable and Phone services, and are good for 5x earnings in June.
I will say though: I’m a bit annoyed that streaming services are a category - the bank’s goal is for you to charge streaming to the card for 5x, but forget about it by next quarter so that you still pay with the same card without earning the 5x. But its a minor inconvenience to switch payment methods around for more points, I suppose 🤷
Do note that the Citi Custom Cash has somewhat taken the place of the Citi Dividend in the active portfolio - this card has no rotating categories to track, and you just earn 5x for your top spend category, up to $500 in spend per month (2,500 points).
Hope you like these categories if you have these cards! As always, happy earning 💸
