💳 Singapore's Back, Earning 5x on Q1 2025 Spend & More News and Deals from Sense per Point ✈️

Making Sense of Points & Miles :)

FYI: Sense per Point is taking a break next Thursday (12/26) for the holidays. The newsletter will be back on the 2nd of January (with a business class flight review!)

So thankful to you all, and hope everyone has a happy holiday season and new year! 🎄

Welcome Back!

Hope everyone is doing well 😊

Time flew by so fast, and I can’t believe its the last newsletter before Christmas, and the last one of the year! It’s all because of your readership that I’ve made it this far, and I’ll keep chugging along!

I’ve got one more trip lined up for the year to Madrid over the holiday season, so I’ll be keen on sharing about that next year! Flights and hotels were booked all through points or travel credits earned through credit cards by the way, and there’ll be more trips like that for next year too 🎉

I’ll also be flying Business Class on my return flight back home in Iberia’s Business Class. Not the swankiest product out there, but it can be booked for 34k points, which is a great deal for business class! Can’t wait to share more!

In today’s edition:

🇸🇬 Singapore’s Back 🇸🇬

Singapore released December’s Krisflyer Spontaneous Escapes! For those of you who aren’t familiar, Singapore releases discounted award flights in the form of Spontaneous Escapes on the 15th of every month. All deals released are 30% off 💰️

The details to keep note of are that:

  • You must complete your booking by December 31st 📆

  • Travel can take place between January 1st and January 31st, 2025 📆

  • Awards are non-refundable and non-changeable (so be careful)

For this month, they’ve included just one route from the US to Singapore in the deal, which is the route from Singapore to San Francisco (and vice versa). With this promotion, that one-way would cost 29,400 points. But there are a handful of other routes from Singapore to other parts of the world, should your travels find you there! 🧳

This month’s promotions are not as big as other months, but thought it would still be good to mention that this is ongoing. Do also remember that the Flying Blue Promo Rewards and the Alaska Global Getaways are also still going on, if you are tracking airline promotions!

If you are interested in going to Singapore or elsewhere via Singapore, do take advantage of these discounts, available till the end of the month! And if not interested for this month’s promotions but interested in the future, then keep an eye for these discounts on the 15th of every month! 👀

Happy travels 😊

2 JetBlue’s normal transfer rate from Amex is 5:4 (1:0.8), so a 25% bonus puts it at a 1:1 ratio. Do note that Chase and Citi transfer at 1:1 normally. Amex transfers to US-based airline partners also incur a tax of $6 per 10k miles transferred.

🚨 Earn 5x Points for Q1 2025 🚨

With Q1 right around the corner, I wanted to bring up the quarterly rotating categories. Just incase you are not familiar: cards with rotating categories give extra rewards for certain categories of card spend, like gas, flights, groceries, and more.

For Q1 2025, the categories are:

Card

Spend Categories

Rewards during Q1

Chase Freedom Flex (Chase Freedom too)

Groceries (excluding Walmart & Target), Norwegian Cruise Line, Fitness Club & Gym Memberships, Hair, Nails & Spa Services, Insurance payments, Tax Preparation Services1

5x/5% back, up to $1500 in the quarter (7500 points total)

Citi Dividend (no longer open to new applicants)

Amazon, Select Streaming Services

5x/5% back, up to $6000 on all rotating category spend in the year

Discover It

Restaurants, Home Improvement Stores, Select Streaming Services

5% back, up to $1500 in the quarter (7500 points total)

US Bank Cash+

Two of the following: Home Utilities, Electronics Stores, Sporting Goods Stores, Ground Transportation, Department Stores, Select Clothing Stores, Gyms/Fitness Centers, Furniture Stores, Cell Phones, Fast Food, Movie Theaters, and TV, Internet & Streaming

5% back on the first $2000 in purchases in the bonus categories

1 The categories in bold will earn 5x/5% only in the month of March.

US Bank Cash+ Bonus Categories

There’s quite a bit going on here across the rotating categories, but getting 5x on groceries via the Freedom Flex is great. 2025 is also the 15th birthday of the Chase Freedom, and they are adding some extra categories as a result, for the whole year. Q1’s categories happened to be insurance and tax prep (in advance of tax day), and hopefully we will see other good, or better categories!

The 5% on Amazon from Citi and the 5% on restaurants from Discover is also quite nice. Do note that the Citi Custom Cash has somewhat taken the place of the Citi Dividend in the active portfolio - this card has no rotating categories to track, and you just earn 5x for your top spend category, up to $500 in spend per month (2,500 points).

Hope you like these categories if you have these cards! As always, happy earning 💸
