Making Sense of Points & Miles :)

70k miles for 1 purchase: The AADVANTAGE® AVIATOR® RED WORLD ELITE MASTERCARD® is back with its 70k signup bonus, maybe for the very last time! One purchase and the $99 annual fee can get you 70k miles, for real 👍️

Welcome Back!

Hope everyone is doing well 😊

Remember last week when I was complaining about the Resy credits being weird and difficult on my Amex account? Well, the day after that newsletter went out, the credits posted. So who knows, I just had to say it out loud for it to happen!

That does remind me that some benefits are very annoying and inconvenient to use. The DoorDash credits feel like a good example of that, especially on the CSR. It is a way for the banks to say they offer up to $X amount of benefits and credits, so it is what it is. All that to say, take advantage of the benefits you have, as long as it is in fact beneficial for you!

With that, let’s get into today’s stories 📖

In today’s edition:

🏔️ Alaska’s Atmos Rewards ❄️

Which consulting firm do we think came up with “Atmos”?

Atmos is something I already appreciate - the Dolby Atmos sound in a Dolby theater and my sound bar at home are great when I watch movies and TV. Now, I get a bit more Atmos in my life, with the new rewards program from Alaska and Hawaiian! 🎬️

These days, whenever companies get a chance to “revamp” or “refresh” their rewards programs, the changes rarely end up being good. We’ve seen that in this newsletter already, with British Airways, Iberia, and countless other airlines doing it… So when Alaska and Hawaiian were working on a joint rewards program, there was cause for concern. But seeing what they’ve put out, I’d say its pretty good!

Some quick details on Atmos Rewards:

  • Alaska and Hawaiian are installing Starlink for in-flight WiFi, to be completed by 2027!

  • You can choose whether to earn points and status by distance flown, spend, or segments flown!

  • Thresholds to hit status are unchanged for Atmos Silver and Gold, but have gone up for Platinum and Titanium

There’s a lot going on here, but one other positive is that the award chart is still the same as the previous award chart under Alaska Mileage Plan! Being that Bilt is the only transfer partner to Alaska, it’s not the easiest rewards currency to earn, but there’s still so much value to be had here 🥳

Then there’s a new set of credit cards that has released in tandem with the new rewards program. I’d probably go way too long if I went into detail on it all, but it generally looks like:

  • Atmos Ascent: 80k points + $99 companion fare signup bonus after $4k spend in 4 months, with a $99 annual fee

  • Atmos Business: 80k points + $99 companion fare signup bonus after $5k spend in 3 months, with a $70 annual fee

  • Atmos Summit: 100k points + 25k global companion award signup bonus after $6k spend in 3 months, with a $395 annual fee

    • This card earns 3x on all foreign purchases, which is genuinely insane

The Summit card comes with a 25k global companion award yearly, which can help offset the $395 annual fee. That award works for any award flight, whether operated by Alaska or a partner airline, and regardless of fare (economy, business, etc.)! That and the 3x on all foreign purchases looks really solid 💪

On top of that, there are still some good signup bonuses on Hawaiian cards (Hawaiian miles transfer to Atmos at a 1:1 ratio!):

There’s probably many other details of note that I missed, but overall, this new rewards program looks pretty good. Lots of consumer-friendly decisions here, particularly being able to choose how to earn points. It rewards high spenders, those who fly long flights, as well as those who fly frequently (not that those are mutually exclusive in any way), so its great to see.

I myself am considering one of the cards to churn and burn in year 2. If these cards and the award chart look exciting to you, then definitely take advantage of these offers while they are here! 🧳

Singapore released this month’s Krisflyer Spontaneous Escapes! As per usual, Singapore releases discounted award flights in the form of Spontaneous Escapes on the 15th of every month. All deals released are 30% off (they were 40% off for a few days but that has since expired…) 💰️

The details to keep note of are that:

  • You must complete your booking by August 31st 📆

  • Travel booked through this can take place between September 1st and September 30st, 2025 📆

  • Awards are non-refundable and non-changeable (so be careful)

This month’s discounted routes from the US are:

Economy Deals!

Premium Economy Deals!

Included in this month’s deals is also the premium economy offering from Newark and JFK to Singapore nonstop! Yes, the two longest nonstop flights in the world currently are part of this deal! The recline is solid, and definitely needed for an almost 19 hour flight, and is definitely a good way to get to Singapore. Remember that Amex, Capital One, Chase, and Citi points all transfer to Singapore at a 1:1 ratio! ✈️

If you are interested in going to Singapore or flying Singapore Airlines to Germany in September, do take advantage of these discounts, available till August 31st! And if not interested now but interested in the future, then keep an eye for these discounts on the 15th of every month!

Happy travels 😊

💳️ Best Card Signup Bonuses 💳️

Again, the usual solid cards:

Do search for public links for the above cards to compare signup bonuses to make sure you get the highest one (incognito mode, Resy, etc.).

For cards with elevated signup bonuses (targeted bonuses are not included), I’ve got:

Card

Bonus

Annual Fee

Why Consider?

Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard

80k American miles after $3.5k spend in 4 months

$0 for first year, then $99

80k American miles without an annual fee! Great card to churn and cancel in year 2

Chase Aeroplan Card

85k Aeroplan miles after $4k spend in 3 months

$95

imo the best signup bonus seen on this card in a while!

Synchrony Virgin Red

60k Virgin Points after $4k spend in 3 months

$99

This is usually 40k points, so a higher bonus than usual! Solid “cancel in year 2” candidate here.

JetBlue cards

80k JetBlue miles after $5k-6k spend in 3 months to a year

$99-$499

Some elevated bonuses for JetBlue, if you are in need of the miles!

Barclays AAdvantage Aviator Red
