Making Sense of Points & Miles :)
Chipotle BOGO: If you wear school apparel or accessories at a Chipotle location after 3pm, you get a BOGO entree! For today only!
Welcome Back!
Hope everyone is doing well 😊
That Joe Hisaishi concert I wrote about going to with my Stubhub credits? It was fun! They actually played clips of the films while performing the music for them, which was wonderful.
Speaking of other non-travel related credit card benefits, I’m actually going to a Mets game soon! Capital One has those great tickets at 5k points each, and I was lucky to snag them. Do be on the lookout for those ticket at various parts of the season. The seats are very close and its a good time 👍️
Its nice to be able to take advantage of the credit card benefits locally even if you can’t travel anywhere. The events and dining credits definitely help with that.
Oh, also, just a heads up that the newsletter will be taking next week off as I head out for another trip! Will write on it when I get back (flights were booked with points, yes!).
With that, let’s get into the stories:

🇸🇬 Singapore Deals: August Edition 🇸🇬
Singapore released this month’s Krisflyer Spontaneous Escapes! As per usual, Singapore releases discounted award flights in the form of Spontaneous Escapes on the 15th of every month. All deals released are 30% off 💰️
The details to keep note of are that:
You must complete your booking by August 31st 📆
Travel booked through this can take place between September 1st and September 30th, 2026 📆
Awards are non-refundable and non-changeable (so be careful)
This month’s discounted routes from the US are:
Economy from LAX, SFO and SEA to SIN (and vice versa) for 30.8k points each way
Or 55,300 points each way in Premium Economy for the LA and SF routes
Economy between New York (JFK) and Frankfurt (FRA) for 19.25k points each way
Premium Economy between Tokyo and Los Angeles for 56.35k points each way
Premium Economy between JFK and SIN (nonstop!) for 59,150 points each way
The LAX-NRT fifth freedom route is eligible this time around again, as is the JFK-FRA fifth freedom route! It’s a fun way to try Singapore Airlines without having to go to Singapore if it’s not a part of your travel plans! Remember that Amex, Capital One, Chase, and Citi points all transfer to Singapore at a 1:1 ratio! ✈️
The long nonstop from JFK to Singapore is also available. I’ve done it, and its not as bad as people think! The time flies by, actually 👍️
If you are interested in going to Singapore or flying Singapore Airlines, do take advantage of these discounts, available till August 31st! And if not interested now but interested in the future, then keep an eye for these discounts on the 15th of every month!
Oh! Another thing to mention: Scoot, Singapore’s low cost carrier airline, also does the same sale. If you are in and around Southeast Asia, this is definitely worth a look!
Happy travels 😊

📉 A Slight Flying Blue Deval 📉
Flying Blue is a pretty simple and solid program - 20k economy and 60k business from the US to Europe at saver levels!
Well, it’ll get a little less simple unfortunately, in the form of pricing tiers on award flights. They are implementing 3 fare types for award tickets for flights as of September 8th: Light, Standard and Flex.
Now, the current pricing will remain for the Light fare. But essentially, you are losing some of the benefits that you previously would have had:
Light fares don’t have cancellation or change flexibility, whereas previous saver awards did
Lounge access is also no longer available for Light fares for business class flights. You need to price up to Standard at least for that…
Just some examples of what I mean, on a sample Paris to New York flight:

What it looks like currently

What it’ll look like on September 8th onwards
This doesn’t matter if you have Flying Blue Platinum or Ultimate status - you still get all of the benefits. But for those of us that don’t have that, this is basically a devaluation. Not price wise, but basically an enshittification 💩
Not great. Could have been worse though. But losing flexibility to change or cancel at the current pricing is unfortunate… This is only for Air France and KLM flights though, and not for partner awards!
