Making Sense of Points & Miles :)

Free Coffee: Enjoy a free handcrafted beverage at a Capital One Cafe! ☕️

Welcome Back!

Hope everyone is doing well 😊

I didn’t write last week and I didn’t let anyone know! I was away on a bachelor party last week and so wasn’t able to. Sorry and thanks for sticking around - the trip was great by the way!! And there’s more trips to come throughout the summer, which makes for an exciting summer, which I hope you are also having 🎉

I would’ve written last week that the World Cup had ended that weekend, and wow, I can’t believe its over… I have no soccer to watch until the English Premier League starts up, and can’t wait for that!

To be honest, I haven’t found this summer to be too eventful for points and miles-related news. But there are still a few things happening here and there, and of course, this hobby requires you to be on your toes in case of a devaluation without notice… I’m here to help with that of course!

With that, let’s get into the stories:

🤝 Alaska x Philippine Airlines 🤝

A new Alaska Atmos partner!

Alaska Atmos now has the ability to be redeemed for flights on Philippines Airlines! More options is always good, especially for transpacific routes, as that means there’s more award availability going around, especially in premium cabins!

Philippines Airlines is also due to join Oneworld next year, so eventually they will have more partners, but nice to get started early 👍️

These redemptions will fit into Alaska’s chart for Asia flights, as usual:

For reference, Seattle and San Francisco to Manila fall slightly under 7,000 miles, so that will go into the 5,001-7,000 band, while other US destinations for Philippines Airlines (except Hawaii of course!) go into the one above. So you can expect, award availability willing, 75k each way in business class between SFO or SEA and MNL, or 85k each way in business class for routings from MNL to airports like LAX, JFK, and ORD (to name a few).

Once Philippines Airlines joins Oneworld, surely you’d be able to redeem that via American and other Oneworld programs, some at potentially better prices than this. But honestly, 75-85k for business across the Pacific is not bad at all!

Only thing is that Alaska already has access to a lot of Asian airline partners, like Korean, Cathay, JAL, and more. So Philippines isn’t as well known of a premium cabin as those, of course. Just something to keep in mind.

But its nice when airlines get new airline partners! New airline to try maybe and more award availability, what’s not to like? Hope you can make use of this, or any of Alaska’s partners through its award chart 🧳

Two notes: 1) that any transfers to Avios essentially include British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Finnair, and Qatar, and 2) that if you have the Chase Aeroplan credit card, any Aeroplan transfer bonuses are 10% extra!
