Making Sense of Points & Miles :)

Economy Bunk Beds: Later this year, Air New Zealand is launching its bunk bed concept for economy passengers between Auckland and New York! 🛏️

Welcome Back!

Hope everyone is doing well 😊

Here in the northeast, the weather got real good all of a sudden. Short sleeve weather, wonderful!

I will say, typically, with the 15th of the month passing, I’d share the Singapore Spontaneous Escapes like I usually do. But I think the rising fuel prices from the events in the Middle East may have affected this too - there are no routes to/from North America included this month 😢

If I go full doom and gloom, I predict that this stuff will and end and costs will go down, but the prices charged to us will remain (as they have before). But I remain ever so slightly hopeful that things will be somewhat better. Whether that hope is foolish or not, what’s life without a bit of hope?

With that, here are your stories!

In today’s edition:

🆕 Capital One Venture Business 🆕

They aren’t new cards, but a rebrand of some old ones! Namely, Capital One has rebranded its Spark Miles and Spark Miles Select business cards into the Venture Business and VentureOne Business! 🆕

Right into the details - for the Venture Business:

  • $95 annual fee

  • Signup bonus of 150k points - 75k for $7.5k spend in the first 3 months, a second 75k for $30k total spend in the first 6 months

  • $50 annual Capital One Business Travel credit

  • Up to $50 annual advertising or software statement credit (TBD on what this exactly is)

  • 5x on hotels and rental cars through Capital One Business Travel

  • 2x on all other purchases

  • $120 TSA Precheck/Global Entry credit

And for the VentureOne Business:

  • No annual fee

  • Signup bonus of 50k points after $4.5k spend in the first 3 months

  • 5x on hotels and rental cars through Capital One Business Travel

  • 1.5x on all other purchases

The VentureOne Business is largely unchanged from the previous Spark Miles Select, so we don’t need to discuss that one much.

The Venture Business though, now comes with a $50 credit on the travel portal and a $50 software or advertising credit. While I’m not sure what will be eligible or not, it’s very possible that things like ChatGPT, Adobe, Microsoft Office, etc. will be eligible. Hopefully things that work for you all! 🖥️

The signup bonus is good for big spenders, but even the first 75k for $7.5k spend is not bad!

The other good news with these cards is that according to some rumors, these cards will not be reported to the credit bureaus. Capital One have had a history of sending all cards (personal or business) to all 3 credit bureaus, so hopefully this rumor is true, so as to avoid taking up a slot in 5/24 (for Chase), etc.

But rebrands/refreshes, etc., while not always great, do generally mean a better signup bonus comes with it. I think this one is better than the old Spark Miles signup bonus, so there’s that! Do take a look at these cards if they make sense for you! 👍️

Two notes: 1) that any transfers to Avios essentially include British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Finnair, and Qatar, and 2) that if you have the Chase Aeroplan credit card, any Aeroplan transfer bonuses are 10% extra!
