Making Sense of Points & Miles :)
Venture Bonus is Back: The Capital One Venture has brought back its best signup bonus of 75k points + $250 in travel credits! Equal to at least $1000 in travel altogether, for $4k spend in the first 3 months!!
Welcome Back!
Hope everyone is doing well 😊
After that nasty snowstorm over the weekend, it’s so cold out here in the Northeast… hope everyone is staying warm and dry, because at least here it might snow again!! 😮
Not much is going on in the points & miles world as of late, so today I just wanted to go through a few ways to earn extra points for your spend!
In today’s edition:

🚕 Points & Miles from Uber & Lyft 🚕

Sometimes, when walking or transit doesn’t cut it, you take an Uber or a Lyft. At home or on a vacation, it does tend to be a pretty convenient option!
Uber and Lyft already count as travel for credit card categories, so any card that earns bonus points on travel (like the Chase Ink Preferred’s 3x on travel) is a great one to use for rideshares. In fact, Chase and Lyft have a partnership, so most Chase cards earn at least 5x on Lyft! Bilt has a similar partnership with Lyft as well 💸
But aside from the usual credit card earnings from using rideshares, there are actually some additional ways to earn points and miles for spend there. So I want to quickly list them out:
For Uber rides abroad:
Earn 1 Avios per £ spent on Uber rides
Earn 1 Avios per £ spent on trains, coaches (buses), and Eurostar trips
Earn 1 Avios per € spent on Uber rides
Earn 1x Aeroplan point per CAD spent on UberX rides to & from the airport and all Uber Premium rides
Earn 2x Aeroplan points per CAD spent on Uber Premium & Uber Reserve rides to & from the airport
Earn 3x Aeroplan points per CAD spent on Uber Premium rides booked in advance with Uber Reserve to and from the airport
Earn 1x Aeroplan point per CAD spent on Uber Eats retail & grocery orders
Earn 1x Aeroplan point per CAD spent on Uber Eats restaurant orders of CA$40+
Earn 250 bonus points when taking one eligible ride, placing one eligible restaurant order, and making one eligible grocery or retail order within the same month
Get $20 Air Canada flight credit for every 10 eligible rides in Canada
Earn 1,000 bonus points after your first eligible ride or after your first eligible order
Earn 1x Flying Blue mile per € spent on UberX Priority, Berline, Comfort, Taxi, Van, & Uber Reserve in France
Earn 2x Flying Blue miles per € spent on UberX Priority, Berline, Comfort, Taxi, Van, & Uber Reserve in France & the Netherlands after four Uber rides in a month. 2x rate earned for the rest of that month and the following three months.
Earn 1x Flying Blue mile per € spent on Uber rides
Earn 2x Flying Blue miles per € spent on UberX Priority, Berline, Comfort, Taxi, Van, & Uber Reserve in France & the Netherlands after taking four Uber rides in a month. 2x rate earned for the rest of that month and the following three months.
Earn 40 Asia Miles on Uber Taxi trips to & from Hong Kong International Airport
Earn 20 Asia Miles on all other Uber Taxi trips
Earn 500 Asia Miles as a new Uber app user who links their account with their Cathay Pacific Asia Miles account & takes their first Uber Taxi ride
Earn 1 Qantas point per 1 AUD spent on Uber Reserve rides to & from eligible airports
Earn 1 Qantas point per 2 AUD spent on all other Uber rides to & from eligible airports
Earn 1,000 Qantas points for linked users who take their first ever Uber ride
For Ubers in the US:
3 points per dollar on Uber Premium rides (UberXL, Uber Black, Uber SUV, and Uber Comfort), including those booked with Reserve, and 2 points per dollar on UberX Reserve rides.
Earn 2 points per dollar on Uber Eats restaurant and grocery orders of $40+ delivered to Residence Inn®, TownePlace Suites®, or Element® hotels.
Earn 1 point per dollar on Uber Eats restaurant and grocery orders of $40+.
Complimentary Silver Elite Status with an Uber One Annual Membership
Earn 1 mile per dollar spent on UberX rides to and from airports.
Earn 2 miles per dollar spent on premium rides, such as Uber Comfort or Uber Black.
Earn 3 miles per dollar spent via Uber Reserve, which is a scheduled ride service that allows you to request trips in advance.
Earn 1 mile per dollar spent on restaurant and grocery orders of $40 or more via Uber Eats (the company’s delivery arm).
For Lyft:
1 mile per $1 spent on Standard, Priority Pickup, and XL personal rides
2 miles per $1 spent on Standard, Priority Pickup, and XL rides with your company business profile
3 miles per $1 spent on Extra Comfort, Black, Black SUV and on-demand airport rides
4 miles per $1 spent on scheduled airport rides
2x points per $1 spent on Standard rides (standard, XL, priority pick-up)
3x points per $1 spent on Airport and high-value mode rides (Extra comfort, Black, Black SUV)
Link your Hilton Honors and Lyft accounts to earn 3 Points per $1 spent on Lyft rides (economy, luxury and extra seats).
Yes, that was a lot! But that goes to show that when you take Uber or Lyft, you can be earning more points!
I can’t tell you which airline or hotel points you should be earning - you’ll have to figure out which you use the most often or which you want to collect. This won’t be the fastest method of earning miles either, but its better than nothing 👍️
So earn more for your rideshare activity with any of these travel partners!!
🏦➡️✈️ Transfer Bonuses
A chart of transfer partners by bank, along with other information, can be found here!

🏘️ Points & Miles from Airbnb 🏘️

So with the rideshare part out of the way, I’ll do the same thing I did but with Airbnb this time!
There are also multiple options here:
2 Avios per £1/€1/$1 spent (click through that above link after logging in for rewards)
1 SkyMile per $1 spent (enter skymiles # in that link and then enter)
1 point per AUD spent
500 bonus Qantas points when making your first Airbnb booking via Qantas (click through that above link after logging in for rewards)
1 mile per JPY 200 (~$1.30) spent (click through that above link after logging in for rewards)
Lots of great options to earn extra points here too! I’d personally collect ANA miles because I find them useful for flights to and from Japan, but it’ll be different for everyone. But all that to say, get as much back for your spend as you can!!
📰 Other Stories & Deals 💰️
💳️ Cardless gained Avelo as a new client, opening the Avelo Airlines credit card - Avelo no longer operates ICE flights, so I guess they needed a new revenue source?
🏰 Disney and Chase also apparently are set to launch the Disney Inspire Visa Card!
🏨 There’s a status match offer to get IHG Diamond status after 8 paid nights!
💳️ Best Card Signup Bonuses 💳️
Again, the usual solid cards:
Do search for public links for the above cards to compare signup bonuses to make sure you get the highest one (incognito mode, Resy, etc.).
For cards with elevated signup bonuses (targeted bonuses are not included), I’ve got:
Card | Bonus | Annual Fee | Why Consider? |
|---|---|---|---|
60k Virgin Points after $4k spend in 3 months | $99 | This is usually 40k points, so a higher bonus than usual! Solid “cancel in year 2” candidate here. | |
100k Citi ThankYou Points after $6k spend in 3 months | $595 | Not the best high annual fee card, but the points are worth churning I think! | |
100k Qatar Avios after $6k spend in 3 months | $499 | An elevated bonus for a card that comes with Oneworld Sapphire status! | |
70k Flying Blue miles + 100XP after $3k spend in 3 months | $89 | A solid signup bonus, and enough XP earned for Flying Blue Silver status! |
